Requirements of the role

Experience and Skills

  • Relevant IT Industry qualifications
  • 3-5 years of practical testing experience, preferably in Agile environment with web-based and mainframe technologies
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Team player with a commitment for ongoing personal development
  • 2+ years of experience in Finance especially in the Automotive Industry
  • Experience using DataBases with strong SQL, XML and Excel skills
  • Automated testing experience is beneficial
  • ISTQB certified tester
  • Highly developed skills in computer literacy, particularly in the area of business productivity products – Microsoft Word, Project, Excel and PowerPoint etc
  • Experience in using test tools – Rationals, Quality Center, JIRA, Quick Test Pro
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to deal with complex issues, think broadly and laterally as well as possess attention to detail

Description of the role

Test planning

  • Review requirements documentation to assess completeness, relevance, correctness, consistency and clarity and report findings
  • Read, understand and provide feedback on project documentation
  • Participate in and make useful contributions to meetings/discussions with SMEs/business representatives
  • Use other means to understand the system requirements if formal documentation is lacking or not available
  • Demonstrate ability to identify key functional areas that require testing
  • Complete a walk-through of the Test Plan/Sheet to the project
  • Identify test objectives.
  • Clearly and concisely write test objectives
  • Correctly prioritize test objectives
  • Correctly link test objectives to relevant requirements documents
  • Ability to clearly and concisely write test cases, stating instructions, expected results and any prerequisites or required data for the test
  • Correctly link identified test objectives to each test case
  • Demonstrate that test cases written provide sufficient coverage of reviewed requirements
  • Get feedback and chase sign offs for all test planning artefacts

Test execution

  • Review the test components to ensure the testing covers the complete scope of work
  • Test cases executed in accordance with instructions and data contained within each test case
  • Able to execute scheduled test cases in agreed timeframes
  • Raise qualify defects
  • Organize defect triage meetings to discuss the outstanding defects
  • If required, chase up defects to be resolved. Escalate to the Test Lead if defect is taking too long to resolve/are impacting test activities
  • Provide contribution to the Test Summary Report


  • Identify and clearly and concisely record any defects/incidents found throughout the testing lifecycle
  • Defects contain sufficient information to enable assessment of root cause and resolution


  • Demonstrate ability to clearly and concisely report/document progress of work to manager
  • Distribute the test execution report (must be reviewed by the Test Lead)


Contribute to and get project sign-off for the test team artefacts. If necessary this is assisted by the Test Lead. The artefacts include:

  • Test Strategy
  • Test Execution Schedule
  • Test Plan
  • Test Objective Matrix
  • Test Cases/Scripts
  • Test Summary Report
  • Daily/Weekly Project test status reports
